Depending on what type of gamer you are this may be a good week in new game releases for you.  The long awaited return of the SSX franchise will take place this week with the release of, well, uh, SSX!  Fans of the Yakuza series and squad based shooter may want to check out Binary Domain this week, while those of you who missed out on the Mortal Kombat reboot last year can now buy the Komplete edition this Tuesday.  Finally, PC gamers who like to get their MMO on can finally check out the Mithril Edition of the free-to-play Lord of the Rings Online game.

Unforutnately, the Blu-ray/DVD front is lacking yet again this week.  If you watched the Oscars then you’ll surely want to check out Hugo, because it won a few little gold men, but outside of that there isn’t much else worth checking into.  As always you can use the product images below to purchase any of these recommended games and/or movies.  You’ve been thinking it’s only 1 week away from the launch of Mass Effect 3…

Video games to buy for the week of 2.27.12

If I knew that Mass Effect 3 wasn’t on the horizon I’d definitely pick up SSX, because I had a blast playing the demo even though I sucked balls at it.  But I can’t justify buying a new game when I know it won’t get played again until late March or April due to my inevitable 60+ hour run through ME3.  I would also check out the The Lord of the Rings Online: Mithril Edition, but I have a Mac and this MMO won’t run on it (efficiently), so I will pass on it.  Binary Domain is an unknown entity, so I would definitely try a demo out before you buy.  Finally, if you skipped out on the Mortal Kombat reboot last year then you owe it to yourself to get the Komplete Edition that comes packed with all of the DLC content that came out for the game.  Check them out below!

Blu-ray/DVDs to buy for the week of 2.27.12

Only based upon its Oscar performance, and the fact that Marty is behind it, I’d say that Hugo is probably a worthwhile movie for your home collection.  I haven’t seen it, but I definitely want to now.  Outside of Hugo there’s nothing worth looking at in the geeky movie space for this week, so pinch your pennies if you have to.
