‘What Have I Become’ A Gears of War 3 Fan Trailer

The Duo Group on YouTube has made an unofficial Gears of War 3 trailer that could fool anyone.  I actually found the link through the Official Gears of War page on Facebook, so it looks like the team at EPIC even digs it.  The Duo Group used the Unreal Development kit to make the video along with Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere.  In Gears of War trailer tradition, their video also features a somber tune as the backdrop, with Johnny Cash’s ‘Hurt’ cover.  If they didn’t inform us that ‘What Have I Become’ wasn’t official we’d never know the difference.

I think I almost cried while watching it until I remembered that crying is for p*ssies!  I did get a slight chill when the music starts climaxing and Johnny says, “And everyone goes away in the end” while Cole watches one of his boys get his brains blown out in a flip inducing manner.

The video just works and keeps in line with the official trailers.  It brought me back to the first Gears of War trailer that featured Michael Andrews’ “Mad World”.  In fact I still get emotional to this day listening to that tune, and it brings me back to the night that I played the song on repeat for 8 hours while playing Gears of War with the AFROzone.  Let’s just say that there was some booze involved, and possibly some midgets in diapers.  What a night.  Maybe I am a puss after all.  You’ve been treated to a fan made wonder…
