Here at Entertainment Buddha we take solace in knowing that our readers are well educated in all things geek, so moving forward our weekly “What Movie Buffs Want” post will now cover new blu-ray/DVD releases, as well as new movies slated to hit theaters. Similar to our “What Gamers Want” post, the recommended new movie releases to check out each week won’t contain every film hitting theaters or retail, but rather they will focus on movies that we feel most of our readers would enjoy. With that being said let us get the movie watching party started.

New Theatrical Releases for the week of 10-14-13

It’s October, so that means it’s the season for some new horror movie releases. The remake of Carrie comes out this week, as well as Haunter, so if you feel like a scare; these two films should be on your agenda to see in theaters. If action flicks are your thing and you don’t mind watching two geriatrics act like they’re still in their 30’s then you may want to check out Escape Plan starring Ah-nold and Sly. If you’re into thrillers then you should think about taking a date to The Fifth Estate, or All is Lost. The first is about the Wiki-Leaks guy, while the second deals with a man lost at sea.

October 18, 2013 theater releases recap:

  • Carrie
  • Haunter
  • Escape Plan
  • The Fifth Estate
  • All is Lost

New Blu-Ray/DVD Releases for the week of 10-14-13

If going out in public to watch movies isn’t your thing, then you’ll be happy to know that a few worthy films are slated for home release. Every self-respecting geek should plan on grabbing a copy of Pacific Rim, which is easily one of the best films of the summer. Sticking with the geek space, the 5th season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is also hitting store shelves this week. SyFy’s solid Defiance summer series is definitely worth a viewing if you’re into aliens and future Earths, so you may want to grab the first season to take home.

Not all of the new releases this week are super geeky though. If you need a laugh you may want to check out The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and the pleasantly plump Melissa McCarthy. Blood thirsty individuals should check out the excellent Vikings series that aired on the History channel, because it does offer a Game of Thrones-ish tone and feel.

October 15, 2013 Blu-Ray/DVD releases recap:

  • Pacific Rim
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 5
  • Defiance Season 1
  • The Heat
  • Vikings Season 1

Happy movie and TV watching! Don’t forget to tune in next week to find out what you should be watching next.
