This weeks new Blu-ray/DVD releases are diverse, so there’s a little bit of something for everyone. Lone Survivor and RoboCop are the two big titles being released this week for home consumption. Lone Survivor is based on actual events that took place in Afghanistan during 2005, and it’s fantastic.

If you’re a fan of HBO’s True Blood and need to get caught up on the blood sucking action, then do yourself a favor a pick up season six before the final season begins airing on June 22nd.

Anime fans can rejoice because Attack on Titan Part 1 is being released this Tuesday. Everyone can get caught up on their own time with Eren Jaeger and friends as they try to ensure that they save the human race from extinction.

As far as this week goes for theater releases, there’s not much going on. If you feel you really need to see a movie this week then check out Edge of Tomorrow, which opens on Friday. It’s directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Trilogy) and stars Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada, Looper) and Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible, Top Gun). The premise of the film seems simple enough to follow. You die, wake up, and repeat the same day again. Its like Groundhog Day, but on acid. The trailer is posted below.

Our Recommendation

It may not be the feel good movie of the year, but Lone Survivor is the solid choice for this week. If you’re not feeling any of the movies releasing this week, then stick with True Blood. If you don’t mind a new take on Detroit’s most famous cop, then the Robocop reboot may be right up your alley.

For theater goers you’re best bet is most definitely Edge of Tomorrow thanks to its sci-fi setting and trippy concept. Besides, even if he’s a goofball in real life Tom Cruise can still act, and most of his movies are worth watching.
