Which Network Should You Watch For New Year’s Eve?

Fox: Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution

Host: Pitbull

Location: Miami (duh)

Headliners: Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Fifth Harmony, The Band Perry, Becky G.

When the promo for Fox’s NYE special is all about how much swearing might occur, it’s gotta be a bonus. Though I took points away because Pitbull isn’t wearing sunglasses and it freaks me out a little. Also the other acts aren’t enticing enough for me to tune in. Except for Kimberly in The Band Perry. She’s a doll.

Score: 5/10 NYE Balls

NBC: New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly

Host: Carson Daly

Location: New York

Headliners: Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Seth McFarlane, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell

Since NBC is lame and I couldn’t find any video promo for their NYE celebration, here’s a video of Carson Daly with Fred Durst on TRL from 2000.

If only Limp Bizkit were headlining the NYE party, but alas. NBC disappoints a bit, especially because using three acts already on an NBC contract (Shelton, Stefani, Pharell from The Voice) seems like a bit of a cop-out. Though I’m not complaining about Gwen Stefani. She’s a doll too. I am a bit curious to see what Seth McFarlane does, since he is a Grammy nominee and all. You read that right: Seth McFarlane is a Grammy nominated artist for his “Music Is Better Than Words” album. Kudos.

6/10 NYE Balls

ABC: Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve

Hosted by: Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy

Location: New York

Headliners: Iggy Azalea, One Direction, Elton John, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift

I think we’ve all resigned to the fact that Ryan Seacrest is the next Dick Clark and he’s going to be on our TV screens for the next 50 years and somehow never grow older. The lineup for this show is solid, especially for the general public as the majority of the performers have been highly relevant for the past year (Elton John has been relevant for my entire life, so there’s that). Plus, let’s not forget the tradition of Jenny McCarthy picking some random dude to make out with on national TV with millions watching. Wait, that’s just weird.

Score: 8/10 NYE Balls

CBS: David Letterman Rerun

CBS dropped the ball by not dropping a ball, and instead is showing a rerun of the November 26th show with Jake Gyllenhaal. Perfect for those who like reruns and not watching fun things, but want to stay up past midnight. Here, watch the Gyllenhaal interview with an advanced screening!

Enjoy the performances tonight, and have a safe and happy New Year!
