Casting anyone in a Marvel movie is probably a tedious process. It has to be kept under wraps for months in hopes that once the casting announcement is made fans of Marvel Comics are just as excited. Heck, even people that are not fans of Marvel get excited too. When it was announced that James Spader was cast as Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, some people probably thought he got the role due to the popularity of The Blacklist. Spader has had some diverse roles in his career. Stargate, Secretary, and Avengers: Age of Ultron are a few of the diverse movies he has been in, not to mention his TV career as well.
What made Spader the best choice to play Ultron was thanks to a movie known as Pretty in Pink. Now you must be thinking, why is a movie that came out in 1986 being referenced? If you have seen Pretty in Pink, then you know why. For those that have not seen the movie, check out the clip down below.
Spader’s portrayal of Steff will probably go on to be one of his most memorable roles because of the horrible things he said in the movie. Seriously, do you not want to knock Steff out? Who talks like that? Quick shout out to John Hughes for writing an amazing script.
Again, Spader could have been cast because of The Blacklist, but his role in Pretty in Pink is why he was the perfect choice for Ultron. Sure Avengers: Age of Ultron may have packed one too many things into a two hour movie, but having Spader voice Ultron made the movie that much more enjoyable.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is out now in theaters.
