Witcher 3 Goes 4K HDR With New Xbox One X Enhancement Patch

CD Projekt Red has made a big announcement today in regards to Witcher 3 for the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. Starting today, gamers who own the game for the Xbox One X can download an enhancement patch that will provide two new presentation modes that will either bump the visuals to native 4K at 30FPS, or provide a performance boost that keeps the resolution at mostly 1080p, but allows for 60FPS and few other visual upgrades.

It was also announced that the PS4 Pro version, which already has a 4K patch, will soon be getting HDR support as well. This patch isn’t available today though like the Xbox One X update. More details can be found below.

About the Xbox One X 4K Patch

The Xbox One X upgrade patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt introduces a number of graphical features and tweaks to the game across two visual fidelity options — 4K Mode and Performance Mode.

In 4K Mode, the game and all its additional content will run in 4K resolution (or supersampled on a non-4K display), featuring enhanced shadows, ambient occlusion and texture filtering, as well as higher resolution textures and gameplay at 30 fps. Switching to Performance Mode will enable dynamic resolution scaling, rendering the game at a resolution of minimum 1080p and up to 4K, while targeting 60 fps during gameplay. Both modes will additionally feature support for HDR, making the game look more vivid when played on an HDR-capable display.

Additional information regarding the Xbox One X upgrade patch and how to toggle between the different visual fidelity modes is available here.
