Every once in a while, a video game comes along that is so interesting that even from its earliest stages in development, you can tell it is destined to be a great game. While games that achieve this feat are often few and far between, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries, looks to be the next title to capture the hearts and imagination of the gaming world in a big way.
Newly launched on Kickstarter, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is in many ways a love letter to both the classic tale and video games as a whole. Developed by the small Grin Gamestudio, Woolfe, is an indie game with decidedly ambitious goals – goals that will make for what could quite possibly be one of the most enjoyable 2D platformers in recent memory.
Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is not your simple rendition of the well-known fairy tale, but rather a mature, twisted take on the classic story that will keep players on the edge of their seats as they progress through the game’s wonderfully detailed 2.5D environments, hacking through the wicked foes standing in their ways.
When it comes to combat, Woolfe stands out from the rest of its platforming pedigree, opting to have a quick and robust combat system in place, allowing Red to execute visceral combos, instead of simple strikes. These combos will be needed through the game, as Woolfe aims to challenge players throughout, boasting seriously impressive, deadly boss fights against fellow classic fairy tale faces.
As previously stated, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries, has just launched a Kickstarter campaign, where Grin aims to raise a total of $50,000 in order to fully implement all of the features they have planned into the game. With thirty more days to go, the sky seems to be the limit for what Grin can raise, and if there is any doubt about just how special Woolfe could be, watching the team’s Kickstarter video (see above) will surely assuage any doubts.
In addition to the Kickstarter video, Grin has also released the first batch of screenshots for Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries, many of which showcase the game’s impressive environments and wonderful lighting. These screenshots can be found in the gallery below.
