Sony is in talks to procure the rights to make a feature film based on the Steven Jobs biography that is coming out in a few weeks. After the 56 year old Jobs passed away earlier this week the books publisher moved up its release date in anticipation of the massive sales that will undoubtedly stem from his untimely death. I for one and someone that will now buy the book even though it really wasn’t on my radar in the first place (nothing against Jobs I just don’t like to read), so I’d imagine there are others like me out there. This begs the question then would a movie about Steve Jobs be just as intriguing as the book?
Sony must think so, because they’re on their way to rounding up the pieces to get one produced. They’ve hired Mark Gordon to produce the film, and are still trying to find a writer. I just don’t know which direction they would take with this potential movie. Considering Jobs’ popularity I think if they put out a movie with him just giving pressers people would flock to it, but I would hope Sony does the man’s life justice and covers his entire career. In a perfect world I’d want a Steve Jobs movie to be similar to The Social Network in which the audience gets a behind the scenes look at what it was like to build Apple from the ground up. It’ll be interesting to see where this project goes, so I’ll be keeping a close eye on its development. How about you? You’ve been needing the down low on Steve Jobs…
