Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is an absolutely beautiful game. Follow the journey of a young character after being shipwrecked on the vast isle of Gemea. Travel through each of the eight locales on the island with their own environments, wildlife, and ecosystems. Despite the lush climates from sandy beaches to snowy mountains, the isle and its kind-hearted inhabitants are being taken over by Murk, an evil purple fog. To save the beautiful island and its residents, you must adventure through the eight environments while fishing, farming, brewing, crafting, and cooking. Uncover Gemea’s secrets by working with its residents and traversing its boundless beauty.
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is based on the idea of a “Heroes Journey.” Developer Prideful Sloth tried to make it as a discovery of yourself. You can make the main protagonist look like you, which makes you connect more with the adventure!
As you continue to roam around the island, you learn more and more about your character’s back story and how he/she ended up on Gemea in the first place. In addition to exploring, your character doesn’t get injured. For example, when you fall from a high area, your character pulls out an umbrella automatically and slowly drifts down to safety.
Now, yes, this game does have a Zelda-vibe. It’s similar, but it definitely stands out as its own game. I absolutely loved this game! I’m a fan of open-world games and this hits it right on the head. The game has no boundaries, and it’s all about finding yourself. The animation and landscapes are absolutely beautiful. While sitting at the booth at PAX East playing this game with the game developer, I heard a few other players mention how pretty the game is. The colors just work–the whole game just works. I definitely plan on playing this game sometime soon!
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles will be released on Steam and PS4 July 18th!
