Disney has released the first official full trailer for Mary Poppins Returns, which is a direct sequel to the original from many moons ago, and a film that is surely on Yondu’s must-see list while he keeps on enjoying his Kree after-life.
The extended trailer provides a great look at the film, which sees Mary Poppins returning to the Banks family many years after her first encounter with them. The kids are now grown and have children of their own, but due to the death of Michael’s wife, his own kids and household are in a bit of disarray, which is apparently why Ms. Poppins comes on down from wherever the hell she lives to provide a little assistance. I think what’s most refreshing about this sequel, is the fact that 2D animation is being used, which is the same style used in the original classic. It appears Disney opted to go old school to bring Poppins back to the big screen, so the new age CGI animation style used for Moana, Coco, and Frozen will not be featured.
Call it nostalgia, or call it a fascination with Emily Blunt, but I’m definitely interested to see this movie, and my kid isn’t even of cinema-going age yet.
Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters on December 19, 2018.
