Zack Snyder has dropped sneak peeks on his Twitter page before. He showed off some stills for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and now he’s showing off the first official look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman.

A few things of note from this picture. Aquaman looks much more rugged and inked up than the typical depiction. Usually the King of the Seven Seas is clean-cut and noble while Momoa’s version looks more savage. Perhaps this is in line with the New 52 version of Aquaman to make him more relevant and interesting to fans. He has also traded his trademark three-tined trident for a quint-dent, which is better for stabbing.

What is unknown is the meaning of the watermarked “unite the seven” phrase. Its ambiguity lends itself to Aquaman being the King of the Seven Seas and also uniting the seven members that will most likely make up the first incarnation of the cinematic Justice League (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash plus the yet to be cast Green Lantern).

Aquaman may show up in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is scheduled for March 25, 2016. If not then he’ll definitely be in Justice League: Part One, which is currently scheduled for November 17, 2017.
